Foraging walks in Cumbria for Autumn 2026
Sunday 18th October – Forage and Feast walk in collaboration with Friends of the Lake District, Witherslack
1pm – 4pm
FREE thanks to FLD funding!
Spend the afternoon with forager Abbi Lawson and FLD nature recovery officer Naomi Walker, learning about the fruit, foliage and fungi in the hedgerows, commons and lanes surrounding the beautiful village of Witherslack. After a gentle walk learning how to identify wild foods and what to do with them, we’ll head back to Witherslack Village Hall to taste some delicious bakes and nibbles made with foraged ingredients, and have a nice hot cuppa!
All dietary requirements are catered for. This walk is suitable for all experience levels and ages 10+. We will be walking around the village and common. There may be some muddy areas and uneven terrain, and lots of bracken. Dress appropriately for Cumbrian autumn weather!
Saturday 31st October – Foraging walk and picnic in collaboration with Girls Outdoors, Bassenthwaite
11am – 4pm

Join the welcoming Girls Outdoors community and forager Abbi for a day filled with wild food, autumnal crispness, and the beauty of the Lake District. We’ll be going for a late-season foraging walk through woodland to find autumn fungi and wild greens, learning how to safely identify, forage for and process them, before returning to cook our finds together and enjoy wild food snacks full of the flavour of the season.
This walk is aimed at women aged 18+ looking to develop friendships and find community in a group that’s all about exploring new places and getting out into nature. The route is mostly on wide woodland pathways, but may occasionally be uneven or steep, and is likely to be muddy at times.
